Birthday 2009

The time was 7.15am. I was making my way to class when I saw someone whom I think was Benz dashing back to the classroom. Though that was not an unusual sight in the morning, I quickened my pace lest the class would to be in chaos.

I smelled something fishy the moment I came near enough to see that the lights were turned off and the fans spinning gradually to a stop. Just as I was pondering whether to walk right into the "booby trap", Yu Yong popped his head up the staircase. I decided that he had to be the 'sacrifice'. After warning him about the potential danger in the room i.e. falling pail of water, powder bomb etc., he walked in curiously without a second thought.

His appearance at the doorstep was 'welcomed' by loud jeering and boo-ing. This was expected, however. Afterall, he isn't very well-liked by 39 out of 40 of the class enrolment. =P

They were expecting me, and I supposed Ryan Toh wanted to find out where I was when he stuck his head out the window. Then it was followed by, "Mr Tan is outside! Mr Tan is outside!" The cat was out of the bag. I wanted to laugh out loud, but I managed to stifle it. Though not everyone was in the room, those present had one common objective. They wanted to spring me a birthday surprise. Sadly, it is my 31st year of presence on the planet Earth. =(

Though that surprise element was gone, I was nevertheless touched by their thoughtfulness. There are just some things that money cannot buy.

I realised that we have not taken any class photos for quite a while when I was looking at some of the photos recently. Hence, I decided that we would take a few before recess today.

As usual, it was very difficult to get everyone to move fast enough for a class photo in the shortest possible time. Seriously, it'll not take more than 1 min for 3 shots. Most of the gals were game and ready for the camera. On the contrary, the boys were very much shier (shy-er).

Shortly into the recess, Jia Yi and Kimberly came running into the staffroom to ask me to go to the canteen. I was immediately reminded of the birthday celebration in the canteen last year. I grabbed my camera and gladly joined in. =D

Some actually requested to smash the cake in my face. The idea was, of course, shot down without a second thought. I could not imagine the mess, and I would not have any extra clothings to change into. Eventually, some creams did end up on my pretty face, and I guessed that was the limit. Anything beyond that, I might just turn nasty. Real nasty. Heheh..

A BIG thank you to Hannah & company, Andrera, Hui Ee, Jia Yi, Kimberly for the surprises! =D

I also have to thank Shu Xuan's mama for the 2 cakes that she had bought, at such a short notice. They are very nice cakes too! =D

Not forgetting Lydia for the keychain with my name on it. Trina, Shernise, Peijun & Wen Fang for the cushion. =D

Finally, my appreciations to everyone for the all the birthday wishes and presents! =D

All these fond memories, this year and the last, will be remembered for a long time to come! =D
