Influenza A (H1N1) Alert [Impt! Must Read!]

Schools will re-open on Monday, 29 June 2009, as scheduled. To slow down the spread of the H1N1 virus in the school community and in Singapore when school re-opens, MOE will issue a 7-day Leave of Absence (LOA) to all school staff and students returning from affected countries, on and after 22 June 2009, to stay away from school. There will also be stepped up precautionary measures and public education efforts in schools.

1. Temperature-Taking
Bring your oral digital thermometer when you return to school on 29 Jun 2009, Monday. Temperature-taking will be done twice daily.

2. Leave of Absence (LOA)
a) Inform me if u have returned from an affected country on or after 22 June and not report to school for 7 days from the date of your return to Singapore. Eg. U returned from Australia on 23 Jun, Tue, u must stay at home from 24 Jun - 30 Jun 2009. U will return only on 1 July, Wed. See a doctor immediately should u not feel well during the period of LOA.

b) Complete the travel declaration form that will be sent to u before school opens and submit it to me on the first day of return to school. As there will be no assembly for the first week, u will report to the classroom.

c) Exercise social responsibility by ensuring that u do not go to school, but stay at home and see the doctor if u are unwell.

Please call my HP and let me know, as soon as possible, if you have gone to any of these 15 countries (Check MOH website for new updates on the affected countries). The countries are : United States of America, Mexico, Canada, Australia, Chile, United Kingdom, Japan, Spain, Argentina, Panama, Philippines, Thailand, Dominican Republic, Indonesia and HongKong.

As I had just returned from Batam, Indonesia, on 23 Jun, Tue, I will only be back in school on 1 Jul, Wed. Mrs Cho, my very very good mentor when I first joined APS, will be relieving me on the first 2 days. Troublemakers will be "well taken care of" when I return. (",)

Meanwhile, enjoy the remaining 4 days of holiday. There's really nothing to worry or fear about returning to school, if u submit all assignments punctually and stay free from troubles. The only drawback is that we have to wake up early, which we should be able to get used to after the first few days. =D

Sunset from a Railway Bridge

I did not expect to find such a place in Singapore. Remnants of an old unused railway bridge and tracks. Through some research on the net, we were brought to this very location.

This place is really a gem, in a highly urbanised Singapore. Although it is not indicated on the map, it is not diffcult to find. With a little gut feeling & a bit of asking around, we discovered this perfect place for sunset & railway photography.

National PowerMind Championship 2009

Come support Benjamin, Vikaesh, Yu Yong and Shawn Ang in the Finals of the 'National PowerMind Championship 2009'.

They will be pitting their wits against participants from St. Anthony's Pri and AMK Pri @ Suntec City, Hall 602, at 4pm this Sunday.

Areas of Competition
1) Processing Speed – Speed of how quickly information is absorbed by the brain to decide whether it is irrelevant (ignore) or of great relevance, in which it is stored in the working memory for manipulation.
Analogy – Central Processing Unit (CPU) of a PC.

2) Logic and Reasoning - Deductive and Inductive Reasoning Skills to solve a given problem, given a set of formulas, principles, steps. Heavily used in Math where problem-solving skills are needed.

3) Working Memory – For retaining, storing and retrieving of information. Stores all incoming information while deciding to transfer to memory bank (important) or delete after an output has been achieved.
Analogy – Random Access Memory (RAM) of a PC. Heavily used in Science where facts about Systems (circulatory, respiratory, digestive), Patterns (Life Cycles, Water Cycle, Day and Night Cycle) are required to solve problems.

4) Visual Processing – Spatial skills, the ability to manipulate mental objects in the mind. Heavily used in Math and reading and writing (Language) where interactions between characters, events development and conclusions are formed in the mind to facilitate comprehension.

5) Auditory Analysis – For verbal and spatial communication. Auditory segmentation, blending and discrimination to pick up spoken words.

Amazing Race @ Sentosa

It almost threatened to spoil the fun. Despite the rain that woke me up at 5.30am, and the drizzle that last till 10am, I had a really great time at Sentosa today. I am indeed very tired but happy right now. Hope that it is the same for everybody who were there for the Amazing Race @ Sentosa. =)

Special thanks to our parent/aunt/sister volunteers - Hong Qing's mama & sis (I forgot to ask for her name), Shaun's mama, Zane's aunt & our CL teacher, Mdm Yeoh, for their superb enthusiasm, understanding and support. =D

This Amazing Race calls for teamwork, organisation skills, strategies, map reading skills, physical fitness and a tweeny bit of intelligence to break the code. =P The whole mission is demanding on the physical fitness. It draws out a person's true characters when one is tired. (",)

The Top 3 Teams to accomplish this "Re-make Sentosa" mission are:

1st: Lame-less 8 (Andrea, Shu Xuan, Lydia, Kimberly, Hannah, Kelly, Xin Xian & HQ's sis)
2nd: Powerpuff Gals (Peijun, Jia Yi, Hui Ee, Malini, Shernise, Wen Fang & Mdm Yeoh)
3rd: FLY (Zane, Benjamin, Yu Yong, Chen Keat, Davian, Song Yang & Zane's aunt)

Powerpuff Gals and FLY will remain as 2nd & 3rd respectively, as the latter was found to break into two sub-teams for the tasks at Siloso Beach.

Team Unknown (Vikaesh, Tino, Ramon, Benz, Pushpin, Benedict, HQ's mama)
Phantom team. Not sighted throughout the mission. There is evidence to believe that there were unresolved conflicts between the group members. Finger-pointings at the end of the mission.

Casualties: Vikaesh (Vying for the post of tourism mascot with the Merlion)

Team The Notorious (Yong Le, Wesley, Aravind, Ryan Toh, Kenneth, Michael & Ian)
7-member team with no adult's guidance. First team to embark on the mission. Team leader, Yong Le/Wesley/Michael, had an up-hill task of ensuring that the members of varied personalites function together as a team. Rapport & teamwork can be better. Some members were not able to cope with the fitness demand of the mission.

Casualties: Ian & Ryan Toh

Team De Resistance (Shaun, Hong Qing, Yu Xuan, Ryan Ang, Song Ze, Yao Guo & Shaun's mama)
The cutest team, seriously. Generally function well as a team. Members are easy-going and receptive of suggestions from one another.

Casualties: Ryan Ang (Another Merlion)

FLY (Zane, Benjamin, Yu Yong, Chen Keat, Davian, Song Yang & Zane's aunt)
Team with the best strategy - starting from the furthest point, and the first team to return.

There's a Chinese proverb that says, "Two tigers cannot live on one mountain". The team was spotted seperating into two sub-groups near Cafe by the Sea, Siloso Beach. Members were also seen shouting at each other over the phone. Cooperation and team spirit can be better.

Team Powerpuff Gals (Peijun, Jia Yi, Hui Ee, Malini, Shernise, Wen Fang & Mdm Yeoh)
Good teamwork. One member appeared a little unengaged though. Nevertheless, Peijun and Jia Yi were outstanding in leading the team to accomplish the mission. Members were cooperative & motivated, and that contributes to an effective team.

Casualties: Mdm Yeoh (Lack of fitness =P)

Team Lame-less 8 (Andrea, Shu Xuan, Lydia, Kimberly, Hannah, Kelly, Xin Xian & HQ's sis)
Another 7-member team. Good teamwork. Two members appeared a little detached from the group. Members were cooperative and enthusiastic which are necessary criteria of an effective team.

Casualties: Kimberly (Didn't we always say, "An apple a day, keeps the DENTIST away?")

Overall Best Team: Powerpuff Gals

Overall Best Player: Jia Yi (Powerpuff Gals)

If not for the rain, we would have the time to indulge in more fun @ the Sentosa SummerFest (U can still go with your family this June holiday). I had prepared extra clothes and was ready to be "dunked". xD

I am pleased with the overall performance of everyone, in terms of behaviours and enthusiasm. We shall return to Sentosa for beach volleyball, sandcastle building and more after PSLE. The very last chance for u to play and get together with your classmates of 4 years! =(

Meanwhile, do whatever is necessary. =)
